SINGER Michelle McManus helped officially open a revamped east end store.

The Pop Idol winner and Evening Times columnist was at the Lidl store on Duke Street following an extensive refurbishment.

The store opened in 1995 and after almost 18 years it was decided it needed a facelift - and in the process the entrance was moved 180 degrees.

Lidl Property Director Gordon Rafferty said: "Ensuring our older stores give customers the same excellent level of shopping experience that our new cutting edge stores de-liver is important to us at Lidl, so we are working our way through our portfolio of older stores to ensure this is always the case."

PR manager Alasdair Fowle added: "The transformation of this store is fantastic, I'm confident the local community will love their new-look store.

"The Lidl team are looking forward to welcoming everyone into their brand new cutting-edge store."
