A missing businesswoman alleged to have been murdered helped "fill the gaps" to make people appear as if they had enough income for a mortgage, a court has heard.

Lynda Spence, 27, is said to have been "well known" for providing replacement bank statements and other financial documents.

At the High Court in Glasgow where four men are on trial, the jury heard Ms Spence was helped in making fake Danish government bearer bonds, which claimed to be worth over £6 million, by Amash Syed.

Mr Syed, 50, who describes himself as a self-employed printer, said he never asked Ms Spence what the documents were for and he believed they were novelty items like "Monopoly money".

A statement Mr Syed gave to police about an alleged incident at his home was read to the court, in which he said a man named Colin acted "like a raging bull".

Mr Syed's wife, Naseem Syed, also gave evidence at the trial.

She said she answered the door to a man whom she called Colin. He was looking for a man named Tony Kelly who was already in the house. Mrs Syed told how she took the man to the sitting room where her husband and Mr Kelly were, and left the room, but eavesdropped from the hallway.

"He was shouting and swearing and saying 'I'm going to smash that table over your head and cut off your arm'.

"I went in at that point and said 'You can't come into my home and threaten (Mr Syed). We don't even know you'. The man started shouting at me and pushed my head on to the wall and pushed his head on my head, and his nose to my nose.

"I was shaking from head to toe."

She left the room and things went "very quiet" for a while, before the men reappeared and her husband ordered Colin to apologise to his wife and their daughter, which she agreed he did, Mrs Syed said.

She was also unable to identify the person she knew as Colin in the courtroom.

Mrs Syed said she got to know Ms Spence as Mr Kelly's business partner, as they were going to remortgage the Syeds' house.

Colin Coats, 42, David Parker, 38, Philip Wade, 42, and Paul Smith, 47, are accused of abducting torturing and murdering Ms Spence in April 14 2011.

Coats is further accused of threatening Mr Syed, his daughter and his wife at their home sometime between June 1 and June 30 2011.

They deny the charges. The trial continues.
