THE Scottish SPCA says it has seen a "staggering" rise in the number of unwanted rabbits given up by their owners.
The charity recorded a 40% increase in the number of animals in their care over the last five years. Last year the Scottish SPCA rescued 766 rabbits compared with 548 in 2008. So far this year the tally is 390.
Scottish SPCA chief superintendent Mike Flynn said: "Some rabbits arrive in our care in a terrible state having been denied basic nutrition."
