A REPORT on East Kilbride's future - sparked by the proposed closure of the town's Rolls Royce factory - has been branded a waste of a year by an MSP.

Linda Fabiani MSP has slammed South Lanarkshire Council after the publication of the long-awaited East Kilbride Task Force report, which the council admits does not amount to a new strategy for East Kilbride.

The report, which is only five pages long, highlights that the Task Force met on only five occasions since September 2012.

The report concludes that it "does not introduce a new policy, function or strategy or recommend a change to an existing policy, function or strategy".

Ms Fabiani said: "The council needs to take action to promote and protect the quality of the town's core area and to encourage reuse of former industrial sites.

"The report shows little evidence of progress on this issue in the year since Rolls-Royce made its most unwelcome announcement.

"Anyone looking to this report to outline a way forward will be sorely disappointed. East Kilbride deserves better than this."
