EVIL Paul McManus went on a shopping spree just hours after stabbing a woman more than 30 times.

The "baby-faced" intruder, who had a knife in both hands, murdered Isabelle Sanders, 51, during a horrific raid at her Glasgow home.

He forced his way into the Crookston home Ms Sanders shared with her 86-year-old partner Norman Busby, at around 2am on April 9.

McManus, who also viciously attacked ex-cop Mr Busby, stole car keys from the house, as well as grabbing £300 in cash, a decanter filled with whisky, and a laptop.

Hours later, at 10.30am, McManus was captured on CCTV, buying new trainers and clothes, in a JD Sports store in Glasgow city centre.

The 20-year-old, from Nitshill, was convicted at the High Court in Glasgow of murdering the bank worker by stabbing her 37 times at the Raeswood Drive property, and attempting to murder her partner.

He was also convicted of another robbery-related stabbing.

McManus - who was released from Polmont Young Offenders' Institution just six weeks before the murder - now faces a mandatory life sentence.

The jury, which took less than two hours to convict McManus, heard that a pair of jogging trousers and a tracksuit top belonging to him had Ms Sanders' DNA on them.

The trainers he wore were never recovered. McManus threw them in a city centre bin, after buying a new pair with cash he had stolen from Mr Busby.

Giving evidence, McManus admitted the jogging trousers and tracksuit top were his, but claimed that on the night of the murder they were worn by former friend Ross Arthurs.

McManus had denied murdering Ms Sanders and had lodged a defence of incrimination, blaming Mr Arthurs and Christopher O'Reilly.

Ms Sanders' brother and sister James and Lindsay Dougall called for the "severe punishment" of her killer.

Mr Busby described being stabbed "several times" in the chest before Ms Sanders, who had been upstairs in bed, came to the top of the stairs.

He said: "Isabelle screamed and ran down the stairs and she saw him standing there. I was lying on the floor covered in blood.

"She saw him stealing stuff and she tried to push him out the front door and he had his knives and he stabbed her several times.

"She fell to the ground covered in blood. I reached out but she was dead."

Around 11.15pm, McManus stabbed and attempted to steal a car from Daniel O'Donnell in Barrhead Road, around 700 yards from Ms Sanders' home.

During that three-hour window, McManus prowled the streets of Glasgow's South Side, before spotting a light on at the property in Raeswood Drive.

"Have you got your car keys?" McManus screamed at the former police sergeant, as he forced his way inside.

Horrified neighbours told how the savage murder shocked the community.

One local said: "How could this have happened here? It's just a normal, quiet, street."

McManus admitted that he robbed and stabbed Ching Long Law in Nitshill Road, on April 2 and a further theft in Barrhead on April 8, however, his offending began in June 2011 and he has a catalogue of convictions.

Detective Chief Inspector Jim Smith, the senior investigating officer, said: "Norman has been left shattered by the death of his partner Isabelle, who died a violent death in her own home at the hands of McManus, who had no regard for the consequences of his actions."
