A CONVICTED killer has gone on the run while serving a life sentence for murder.

Police hunting John Reilly believe he may have travelled to Glasgow by coach from England after he disappeared more than a month ago.

The 58-year-old, who is from Hamilton, was released on temporary licence from HMP Leyhill, near Bristol, on August 26.

However, he absconded just two days later, when he failed to report to police, and hasn't been seen since.

Detectives said Reilly has relatives in Hamilton, but so far, he has not made contact with them.

Avon and Somerset Police have launched a major search operation for the killer who was jailed for life for murder.

A police spokeswoman said: "On August 29, John Reilly failed to report and is now wanted by Avon and Somerset Police.

"Reilly, 58, comes from the Hamilton area. It is thought he may have travelled by coach to the Glasgow area from London on September 5.

"He is not believed to be a danger to the public."

Meanwhile, police in Glasgow are continuing their search for fugitive Jonathan Kelly, who has been at large since he breached his licence conditions on release from prison last month.

The 34-year-old, from Drumchapel, had been freed from Low Moss Prison, Bishopbriggs, but failed to report to police.

The Evening Times previously revealed he was acquitted of nine charges -including sexual assault and abduction - just weeks before he went on the run.

Detectives are working to identify Kelly's associates, who may be harbouring him. Senior officers believe he has been supported by friends.

Kelly has previously told of attacking people, and paralysing a man in a machete attack. He is white, 5ft 9in, with short brown hair and of heavy build.

Anyone who has any information about either men is asked to call police on 101.
