THE chalk dust might have settled for another year, but the bounce created by Andy Murray's Wimbledon victory is only just beginning across Glasgow and beyond.

The city is gripped by tennis fever thanks to the Scottish hero ending Britain's 77-year wait for a men's Wimbledon champion.

Courts have been inundated thanks to the nail-biting end to the All England Club's championship coinciding with the school holidays and good weather.

Tennis Scotland chief executive David Marshall said: "I'm sure there are thousands of people of all ages who were so inspired by Andy's performance on Sunday that they'll pick up a racquet and get on court."

Dozens of youngsters got to grips with a racquet at Glasgow Club Scotstoun.

The leisure centre in Danes Drive, along with Glasgow Club Gorbals in Ballater Street, is hosting holiday 'come and try sessions' for youngsters aged 5 to 16 years old.

These indoor sessions run with outdoor child-ren's coaching sessions in Queen's Park, Drumchapel and Knightswood.

Glasgow Life tennis development officer Mike Kolacz said: "We've seen a steady rise since Andy burst on the scene, but now you can hear his name being shouted more often."

Andy's tennis coach mother Judy has given her seal of approval to a partnership between Glasgow Life and Tennis Scotland that involved the £350,000 refurbishment of outdoor courts in Knightswood Park and Drumchapel Park and, in April, she helped launch a £1million project to inspire the next generation of stars.

Glasgow Life manages 19 outdoor courts at four park sites. It costs nothing to play outdoors on the four new flood-lit courts at Drumchapel Park, on the six courts at Kelvingrove Park, the five courts at Queen's Park or the four at Knightswood Park.

Courts can be booked by those holding a Glasgow Club card or Young Scot Card.

Glasgow Life also has 12 indoor courts, many offering coaching sessions and cardio tennis classes.
