Dozens of classic vehicles will be revving up for a major show this weekend.

Summerlee Museum in Coatbridge plays host to the Classic Truck and Car show.

The event on Saturday and Sunday will feature around 50 trucks, vans and cars from the 1950s and 60s.

Enthusiasts will be displaying vehicles from manufacturers such as Albion, Atkinson, Bedford, Leyland, Scammell and Thames, plus two vintage fire engines.

There will also be a collection from the local Morris Minor Enthusiasts’ Club, with a range of saloons, vans, pick-ups and travellers.

A display of models as well as trade stalls with hobby materials and collectables will be available.

Summerlee’s customer services manager Laura Eales said: "This promises to be a great weekend for all ages.

"As well as a superb show of classic trucks and cars, we will be laying on a treasure hunt and bouncy castle for the kids.

"All this, plus our own steam machinery, tram rides and mine tours make it an event not to be missed."

This year is the first time Summerlee is holding the event since it underwent a £10million refurbishment in 2008.

The museum, which will be open as usual during the truck and car show, was given a new exhibition hall packed with interactive exhibits.

And the museum’s popular electric tramway, still Scotland’s only working tramway, will be running.

The council’s marketing officer Duncan Cameron said: "The truck and car show was held regularly at Summerlee until the refurbishment. It has always been a popular event and there will be plenty for visitors to do."

The Evening Times is the official media partner for the event, which runs from 10am to 5pm on both days. Admission is free, with a small charge for some activities.
