Jon Wilson, a pupil of Kilmarnock Academy, died at Crosshouse Hospital following the alleged assault in Queens Drive at around 2.40am on Sunday, September 4.
The school's head teacher, Bryan Paterson, will attend the funeral on Friday morning in Auchinleck, along with head boy, Josh Cuthbertson, and head girl, Dawn Carroll.
The Kilmarnock Academy flag will be flown at half-mast.
Mr Paterson said: "Jon was a lively student, a real character, who will be missed.
"It is an absolute tragedy that a young person full of potential was a victim in such an incident.
"We will all be thinking of Jon's family and friends on Friday, as we have been over the past weeks.
"On behalf of the whole school community, I have written to Jon's parents, passing on our deepest sympathy."
A memorial walk to honour Jon will be held on Saturday, October 8, in Kilmarnock, leaving from Jon's home in Gateside Place at 10.30am.
Graham Short, East Ayrshire Council's education chief, said: "The thoughts of everyone will be with Jon's family and friends on this very sad day."
A 16-year-old boy appeared at the town's sheriff court charged with murder.
Cameron McCreadie, of Kilmarnock, made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.
