A NURSE has been struck off for sexually assaulting a colleague twice and blaming her for the attacks.

Robert Edmiston continued to claim to nursing watchdogs that the woman had consented, even after a court had found him guilty of the attacks.

Edmiston, 44, a married dad, targeted the woman at the Bupa-run Braemont complex in Paisley on August 26 2013.

The first assault lasted about 30 seconds and the woman struggled to get away. Edmiston later came back into her office and struck again.

Edmiston was convicted of two sexual assaults at Paisley Sheriff Court in July last year.

He was sentenced to community work and placed on the sex offenders register.

A hearing by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, on Tuesday, found that the former nurse had shown no remorse since the attacks.

He wrote a letter to the NMC where he made several excuses for his behaviour and tried to shift the blame to his colleague.

Edmiston was not present for the hearing, which concluded: "This is a serious conviction which has resulted in a criminal sanction to which Mr Edmiston remains subject.

"Mr Edmiston appeared to lack insight, as he claimed the female colleague was consenting despite the now concluded criminal proceedings, which established otherwise.

"Several time throughout the letter (to an NMC officer) Mr Edmiston appeared to try to shift the blame from himself to his colleague.

"Mr Edmiston's lack of insight is also shown by his continued denial that his colleague did not consent to his actions, even after a court had found otherwise and convicted him."

In September last year, a nurse was struck off after being found guilty of 12 charges of misconduct at the same care home.

Helen McWhirter, elbowed a pensioner in the stomach and used used foul language in front of elderly residents and was sacked from the home.
