CRUEL conmen posing as salesmen robbed a pensioner of cash in his own home.

The two men arrived at the 72-year-old's home in Crichton Street, Springburn at around noon yesterday, pretending to be selling goods.

After gaining entry, the pair quickly left the property with a three-figure sum of cash.

Detective Constable David Somerville said: "Luckily the victim was not injured in this incident however it was a very distressing experience for him.

"Bogus callers often deliberately target elderly and vulnerable members in our communities and they can be very convincing.

"Extensive enquiries are taking place in the area to catch those responsible.

"However, I would urge people living locally to be on their guard and contact us immediately if they are approached in a similar manner.

Both suspects are described as white, in their early 30s, medium to average build, and around 5ft 6in tall.

The first man had dark stubble on his face, he spoke with a local accent, and was wearing a black jacket with the hood up.

His accomplice was clean shaven and also spoke with a local accent.

He was wearing a black jacket with no hood, a black woolly tammy hat, dark trousers and grey trainers.

One of the men may have been carrying a rucksack and clipboard.

DC Somerville added: "This incident once again highlights the issue of bogus callers and the importance of keeping yourself and others safe.

"The best advice is to keep your door locked at all times, ask for identification and check it carefully.

"Don't feel embarrassed or under pressure because genuine callers will not mind you checking their details and don't open your door to anyone until you are absolutely sure of their identity."
