AN ELDERLY woman was taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a flat.
Tuesday morning's blaze is believed to have been started by a discarded cigarette.
Fire teams were called to the flat in Wester Mavisbank Avenue, in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire.
The fire was put out and crews at the scene gave oxygen to the elderly woman, who was suffering from "slight smoke inhalation".
She was taken to Monklands General Hospital for a precautionary check up.
