RESIDENTS in Glasgow fear a late-night 'pop-up' cinema will encourage outdoor drinking and cause disruption.

People living in the West End are worried about plans by the G1 Group-owned Grosvenor Cinema to screen movies in a library car park in Burgh Lane.

It plans to build a temporary cinema behind Hillhead Library which will screen films tomorrow and next Friday as part of the West End Festival.

The movies, Trainspotting and Dirty Dancing, are to be shown between 10.30pm and 1am for around 75 to 100 people.

However, there are concerns after Police Scotland said the plans had not been firmed up with them.

Mary Devlin, 66, has lived with her husband Bill, 69, in Hillhead, near to Burgh Lane, for 35 years.

She said: "We weren't told anything about this and the community council didn't know either. I'm worried about noise disruption.

"There are also concerns about people drinking outdoors. We want to know who is policing this event?"

Burgh Lane is just off Byres Road and is surrounded by shops and flats. Residents living nearby received leaflets alerting them to the event.

Organiser Ken Creel-man, of the Grosvenor, said: "We have made all the appropriate people aware, including Glas-gow City Council."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We are aware of the prop-osal to hold this event, however, consultation has yet to take place by the event organisers with the police."

A Glasgow City Coun-cil spokesman said: "The organiser was advised they should have an appropriate event manual, risk assessments, medical provision and crowd management in place and that they should advise the police of the event."
