THE countdown is on - you have just over 24 hours left to nominate Scotland's sporting heroes.

The deadline for entries for this year's Evening Times-backed Glasgow Sportsperson Of The Year awards is tomorrow.

This is your chance to vote for a sports person, club or school to be recognised for their achievements in 2014 - a historic year for sport in the city.

For the first time, you can vote to crown both a Glaswegian AND a Scottish sports personality of the year who deserve special recognition.

And there are plenty of other categories for inspiring sports men and women.

Did someone motivate you to run that last mile faster in your first 5K?

Or perhaps there is a PE teacher who is encouraging your son or daughter to strive for Commonwealth gold.

The glittering event, which is organised each year by Glasgow Life, will take place on Friday February 27 2015 at Glasgow City Chambers.

Hundreds of athletes, sports fans, club leaders, school pupils, volunteers and coaches will gather for the celebration.

The award categories are: Evening Times Glasgow Disabled Athlete Of The Year; Service To Sport; Team Of The Year; Young Sports-person Of The Year; Club Of The Year; Primary and Secondary Sports Schools Of The Year; Student Athlete Of The Year, sponsored by Strathclyde University, Glasgow Coach Of The Year and Glasgow Volunteer Of The Year.

There will also be a Lord Provost's Award, which will be selected from all nominees.

Last year's Sports Person of the Year award was presented to 2013 Wimbledon champion Andy Murray.

Councillor Gordon Matheson, leader of Glasgow City Council said: "Given just how spectacularly Glasgow's sports men and women have performed on the global stage this year, the Sports Personality of the Year will be a night of celebration.

"It will evoke great memories of the achievements from the incredible summer of sport we enjoyed in the lead up to and during the Commonwealth Games, and will recognise and thank those who help deliver grassroots sport in the city.

"No matter who wins, we will be celebrating the unwavering dedica-tion of athletes, coaches and the volunteers."
