A DENNISTOUN nursery will be able to improve its outdoor learning space thanks to funding from a Glasgow company.

Dennistoun Early Years Centre is recipient of Ross and Liddell's Community Bursary, which aims to provide financial support to local organisations.

The charity, which provides childcare for children aged between three months and five years, has been working on its garden area to support the ethos of Nurture through Nature and ensure the children have somewhere to play and learn. This new funding will be used to install willow trees to enhance the environment.

Linda Turnbull, depute head of centre, said: "We are thrilled to receive this funding from Ross and Liddell which will go towards improving our outdoor space.

"The garden area has been an on-going project for the nursery.

"We are committed to providing excellent learning experiences for the children and as we are located in the heart of Dennistoun, surrounded by flats and tenement buildings, it's important that they have access to some green space to play and learn.

"The area looks completely different from the large tarmacked area we started with, but we are looking forward to improving it even further with this funding."

Ross and Liddell specialises in property management and maintenance, as well as providing a comprehensive range of residential and commercial services, including sales, lettings, surveying and insurance.

Now in its fourth year, the Community Bursary Scheme was launched to provide support to organisations that make a vital difference in their community.

Irene Devenny, managing director of Ross and Liddell, said: "The bursary scheme has really gone from strength to strength and we are always overwhelmed with the number of applications we receive year on year.

"Groups like the Dennistoun Early Years Centre provide such a vital service to parents in the area and the commitment of the nursery to improving the learning experiences of the children is fantastic.

"It's important that the children have a fun and safe environment to play and learn in and we are thrilled that this funding will go some way to further improving the outdoor area."
