A RISE in reports of child sex abuse has prompted a Scottish charity to repeat a call for parents to speak to children about the issue.
Sexual abuse accounted for 13% of calls to NSPCC Scotland helpline which resulted in a referral, and 26% of calls which resulted in advice in 2012/13.
This a 68% increase in referral figures and an 83% increase in advice contacts from the previous year, 2011/12.
NSPCC Scotland is re-running its Underwear Rule campaign urging parents of children aged five to 11 to talk to them about staying safe from abuse. Matt Forde, national head of service for NSPCC Scotland, said parents and carers can play an "important role".
