PEOPLE in Lanarkshire are being urged to have their say on plans to remove GP out of hours services from three hospitals.

NHS Lanarkshire wants to centralise services at Douglas Street Community Health Clinic in Hamilton or two centres at Airdrie Community Health Centre and Douglas Street Community Health Clinic.

Services are currently provided at Wishaw General, Hairmyres and Monklands hospitals.

Critics of the plans have argued that some patients will have increased distances to travel to access out of hours services.

NHS Lanarkshire say "thousands" have taken part in the consultation, which is due to close on April 6.

Craig Cunningham, Head of South Lanarkshire Community Health Partnership, NHS Lanarkshire, said: "We have already had an excellent response to the public consultation with thousands from throughout Lanarkshire sharing their views with us.

"We have been listening carefully to all comments and will take them into account in reaching a final decision."
