Player row goes on

THE battle between PFA Scotland and Rangers chief executive Charles Green continued over the players' union raising an employment tribunal claim against the Ibrox club on behalf of 67 unnamed players.

In their share issue prospectus, Rangers said the claims would be "robustly" defended. Three players who have raised constructive dismissal claims were among nine who refused to transfer their contracts to Green's company after oldco Rangers – RFC 2012 – was liquidated in June. A PFA statement said the basis of the claim for a Protective Award is that administrators Duff & Phelps failed to consult the players and PFA Scotland.

The union says it will drop the claim if Rangers abandon breach of contract proceedings against their members.

Mr Green said that many of "the supposed 67 players" are still at Ibrox and want no part in the action.

He added: "In reality, we are talking about six players who have some form of dispute."
