Police are continuing inquiries following an "unprovoked" gang attack on a man while he was walking home.

The 29-year-old was walking with his two friends along Tormore Street, near Cardonald Railway Station, at 11.15pm on Saturday night when six or seven men began chasing them.

The gang caught up with one man and seriously assaulted him before they ran up Berryknowes Road towards the station.

The injured man was helped to the Southern General Hospital by his two friends where he is being treated for injuries.

Detective Constable Kenneth Johnston from Govan CID, said it appeared to be an "unprovoked attack".

In a separate incident a man was taken to hospital after he was assaulted outside a pub in the north of the city.

The man, whose age is not known, was attacked outside the Politician Bar on Maryhill Road at 7.20pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile, detectives have stepped up an attempted murder probe after a man was seriously assaulted in Balmore Road, north Glasgow, on Friday.

At around 10.30pm on Friday a fight broke out between a 24-year-old man, two other men and a woman.

The 24-year-old man was stabbed by one of the men opposite the bus stop near to Balmore Square. Emergency services attended and the injured man was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary where medical staff described his condition as serious but stable.

Officers are treating the attack, which happened at around 10.30pm, as attempted murder.

Police are appealing for anyone with information on any of the attacks to contact them by calling 101.
