An elderly pedestrian has died in hospital after being knocked down by a van.
The woman was walking in Merkland Drive, Kirkintilloch, near to a bus turning circle when she was struck by a silver Ford Transit at around 6.40am yesterday.
She was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary but died a short time later.
Police said further details will be released once the woman's family had been informed.
The 48-year-old driver of the van was uninjured.
Officers want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the crash, which happened close to the entrance of a nature reserve beside the turning circle.
Sergeant Joe McGuckien said: "The area was quiet at the time of the incident but we believe there may have been a few vehicles passing this location.
"The nearby nature reserve is also very popular with local dog walkers and I'd like to speak to any passing motorists or local dog walkers who may have witnessed this incident."
