A KNIFE thug threatened staff and stole cash during a raid on a shop.

The hooded man entered the Keystore, in High Street, Dumbarton, threatened two female workers and demanded money.

He the escaped with the contents of the store's till.

Police said the workers - aged 59 and 63-years-old - were uninjured but have been left "extremely traumatised".

It happened at around 9.30pm on Tuesday and police have launched a probe.

The suspect is described as between 5ft 6 and 5ft 9in tall, of medium or stocky build.

He was wearing blue overalls, a red hooded top, with the hood up, and a scarf which was partially covering his face.

Police are carrying out door to door inquiries in the area and are accessing CCTV footage in an effort to trace the man responsible.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Grainger said: "This was quite simply a terrifying experience for the women concerned who thankfully, were not injured although they are utterly traumatised.

"I'd like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of the shop at the time of the robbery to come forward.

"Our enquiries have so far told us that shortly before the robbery, the suspect waited nearby the shop until a male customer left before carrying out his attack.

"I'd like to speak to this man as he may have vital information which could assist with our inquiry.

"We're also aware of a vehicle that was nearby, that pulled away immediately prior to the robbery.

"I'd like to speak to the driver of that vehicle, as they may be able to help us with the inquiry."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Clydebank CID on 101.
