A MASKED gunman robbed a Glasgow shopkeeper before brazenly strolling to a burger van to eat.

Police are now appealing for witnesses after the gunman made off with a three-figure sum following the raid on the newsagents in Carntyne Road, in the city's East End, on Saturday.

CCTV footage showed the man changed his top after leaving the store, shortly after 2.30pm, and stopped to buy food from a nearby street vendor.

He also took the time to chat to two women who were on a grass verge beside of Edinburgh Road in Cranhill.

The 58-year-old owner of Ashraf newsagents was left shaken but unhurt during his ordeal.

The robber is white, about 5ft 11in tall and slim.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the robbery and are especially keen to speak to the two women the man stopped to talk to and a third woman who was standing outside the newsagents.

Detective Sergeant John Semple said: "The gunman changed his top after the robbery, and stopped at a local burger van to buy food.

"He also was seen crossing Edinburgh Road in Cranhill to speak to two females.

"I am particularly keen to speak to these two as they may have information that could assist us."

"Additionally, we know that there was a female directly outside the store as the man left, and I would like to trace that female also."

Meanwhile, after another incident in the East End, detectives are hunting a masked robber who held up a Glasgow bookies.

Police said a man threatened a member of staff and demanded money after walking into the Cumbernauld Road branch of Ladbrokes at 9.10pm last Tuesday.

Officers have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries and are reviewing CCTV images following the robbery at the Dennistoun store.

No weapon was used, and no-one was injured, but a 27-year-old male member of staff was left shaken.

The suspect is 5ft 6in tall and slim.
