David Wood, 24, from Clarkston, East Renfrewshire, died after his car smashed head-on into a double-decker bus that was waiting at traffic lights in Grange Road, near the New Victoria Hospital.
His Hyundai Coupe is believed to have crossed the carriageway before hitting the bus on Sunday morning, close to the junction in Langside Road.
The 24-year-old, former pupil of Williamwood High School, died at the scene. His parents David and Kirsten have been left devastated by the tragedy.
None of the bus passengers were injured but police said its 27-year-old driver was "extremely shaken".
He was taken to the nearby New Victoria Hospital as a precaution.
The road was closed for several hours for crash investigations. The wrecked Hyundai was driven away on the back of a truck.
A report is being sent to the Procurator Fiscal and police have appealed for information about the accident in the city's South Side.
Anyone with information should call Sergeant Joe McGuckien, of the Roads Policing Complex at Govan, on the new non-emergency number, 101.
