As reported in later editions of yesterday's Evening Times, the 25-year-old suffered serious injuries in the incident.

Detectives are treating the attack, which took place in the Gorbals on Boxing Day, as attempted murder.

Officers were called to Old Rutherglen Road at around 5.10am on Thursday, after the alarm was raised.

When they arrived, officers found the injured young man in the road.

Emergency services, including an ambulance, rushed to the scene and the victim was taken to the nearby Victoria Infirmary.

Hospital staff said his condition is described as "serious but stable".

Witnesses and anyone with information about the incident were today being urged to contact police.

It is understood detectives have yet to speak at length to the victim.

Officers are reviewing CCTV footage and carrying out door-to-door inquiries in a bid to find out more about the attack.

A section of road at Old Rutherglen Road and McNeil Street was cordoned off and officers could be seen carrying out investigations.
