Officers were alerted at around 10.45am yesterday to the body in the water close to Glasgow Harbour.
Emergency services went to Meadowside Quay Lane and police and ambulances stayed at the scene.
The body of the man, who has not yet been identified, was taken out of the water and officers are trying to establish his identity. Police said it was not known how long the body had been in the water.
The Strathclyde Police force helicopter was deployed to help with the recovery.
A spokeswoman for the force said: "We received a call at around 10.45am of a report of a body in the River Clyde.
"Emergency services attended and the body of a man was recovered.
"Officers are currently working to identify the man and there are no suspicious circumstances."
A post mortem examination is due to be carried out to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
