Police warning for drug dealers after raids

POLICE said they will pursue drug dealing relentlessly in Glasgow following a series of successful early-morning raids.

Four men were arrested during the massive operation in Knightswood, in the West End, as reported in later editions of yesterday's Evening Times.

Around 50 police officers smashed their way into six homes of the suspected drug dealers, around 6am yesterday.

The Evening Times was given exclusive access to accompany officers from Partick police station on the raids.

Four high-rise tower blocks in Lincoln Avenue and Kestrel Road were targeted during Operation Wing.

A 43-year-old was detained in connection with drug dealing offences. Three others – aged 42, 43, and 48 – were detained in connection with suspected possession of cocaine, heroin and valium.

We watched as helmeted officers dressed in padded riot gear then used metal battering rams to smash the front doors in, before other police stormed inside the properties.

Officers then searched the premises and seized a haul substances suspected to be illegal drugs.

Following extensive searches, two men have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with alleged drug offences.

They are understood to have been in possession of Class B drug cannabis.

Suspected stolen property – including a mountain bike worth £1400 – was discovered in one property.

Another man was reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with alleged theft.

Detective Inspector Fil Capaldi, who led the operation, issued a warning to drug dealers.

He said: "We have to send a message out to those involved in dealing drugs, that they won't get away with it.

"With the support of local people we can actively target those involved.

"Drug dealers may think they are anonymous, but they are not.

"They think they can hide behind a door in a block of flats, but they can't. They won't get away with it.

"We might not come for them today, we might not come for them tomorrow, or next week – but we will come for them."

Police were acting on intelligence provided by concerned residents after the death of James Kerr on April 11.

The 34-year-old was found at his flat in Lincoln Avenue following a fire at the property.

A 29-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman have appeared in court in connection with the death.
