DAREDEVILS are putting their lives at risk by scaling the peaks of a Glasgow bridge.

The dangerous stunt involves running or climbing over humps on the £6million pedestrian Squiggly Bridge.

Pranksters have been spotted climbing over the footbridge's 25ft high arches, near the city centre, in the past month.

And a top city cop today warned about the potentially fatal consequences for people involved in the stunt.

Chief Inspector Mark Sutherland is unimpressed with the thrill junkies after he branded the stunt "dangerous and stupid".

He told the Evening Times: "One slip could easily lead to a serious injury, or even death.

"I would strongly urge anyone considering it to think again.

"My advice would be stop before someone is seriously hurt."

Footage of young people scaling the twin humps that adorn the pedestrian bridge have appeared on social media sites.

Some daredevils are risking plunging into the River Clyde as they slid back down the Tradeston Bridge's high humps.

Mr Sutherland, area commander for the city centre, said: "I cannot emphasise enough how dangerous and stupid it is to attempt to climb on the bridge.

"It also can encourage others to do something similar and they might not be so lucky.

It is dubbed the Squiggly Bridge because of its unusual S-shaped design and takes pedestrians and cyclists from the Broomielaw financial hub to Tradeston, south of the river.

Built in 2009, the bridge was part of a £33m project which also included strengthening the 100-year-old quay walls, creating new open space for the public, building walkways and landscaping.
