THE Post Office has announced plans to take over the unit leased to Crockets and close the St Vincent Street branch.
The new premises will be will be completely refurbished with 10 counter serving positions in an open-plan design.
The original plan was for the branch to relocate to 18 Renfield Street. However Post Office said this had been abandoned, "due to circumstances beyond our control."
The Post Office said there would now be a further period of consultation on the move to 140 West Nile Street. The least on St Vincent Street is due to expire in May.
The new branch will increase the number of self-service kiosks from three to six.
Customers will also be able to use them to make bill payments, pay for mobile phone top-ups and other stationery items.
