There was another sharp fall in the number of passengers flying through Prestwick Airport in January.

Infratil, the New Zealand firm that owns Prestwick, said 103,188 passengers used the Ayrshire airport, down 22% on January 2009.

In the 10 months to January 31, a total of 1,488,638 passengers flew in or out of Prestwick, down 26% on the same period in the preceding year.

Operations in the month were affected by disruption to flights resulting from bad weather.

Last month BAA said poor weather had adversely affected passenger numbers at its Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen airports.

They fell 12.2% annually at Glasgow in January, 7.4% at Edinburgh and 13.6% at Aberdeen.
