INVESTIGATIONS were ongoing today into a fire at a Glasgow warehouse.

Emergency services were still at the scene today following the weekend blaze which engulfed the Alfa wholesale cash and carry at Lancefield Street, Finnieston.

More than 30 firefighters from crews across the Strathclyde area helped tackle the blaze.

A spokesman for Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said the fire was "ferocious" after it took hold of the single- storey building.

Firefighters battled to stop flames spreading to nearby premises after the fire started at 8.30pm on Friday.

An initial report said the fire had been brought under control but appliances were still at the scene last night with firefighters hosing down any lasting remnants of a fire threat.

Glasgow City Council's Building Control team were at the scene and it was thought there remained a threat of oil contaminating nearby drains.

The incident will be the subject of an investigation by Strathclyde Fire & Rescue and police.

Police said no-one was injured in the blaze which sent smoke billowing over the city centre.
