AN investigation has been launched after the body of a woman has been found in a house in the seaside town of Helensburgh, Argyll.

Detectives cordoned on Lomond Street in the town after the discovery was made at 12.50pm.

Forensic teams were later called in as officers launched a probe into the death and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police were called at around 12.50pm to a report of a woman's body found in Lomond Street in Helensburgh. Inquiries are ongoing."

Police cordons were in place at both ends of the street with several uniformed officers standing guard.
