A CYCLING proficiency project from East Renfrewshire has won its first ever COSLA award.

The Bikeability Project, which is the first of its kind in the UK, took home the Best Team Award at the event Thursday March 12.

The project aims to provide a new way of on-road cycle training for all local school children.

More than 120 parents and school staff have been invited to enrol their children in the project, which also teaches bike maintenance.

East Renfrewshire convener for infrastructure and sustainable growth, Councillor Tony Buchanan, said: "This is a fantastic achievement for the Roads team and well deserved recognition of a project that has drawn support from across our communities. What a great example of community-led service delivery. Thank you to all the volunteers, parents and school staff who have provided their time and support to this project."
