Project 'supports minimum pricing plan'

Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said the results of the charity screening project – where Glasgow topped five British cities for liver damage – strengthened the case for a minimum pricing policy on alcohol.

She said there were no plans to introduce a programme of national liver screening, consistent with recommendations by the UK National Screening Committee.

A first attempt by the SNP to push through a price proposal failed during the last parliament. MSPs rejected the idea before the May election, but after the SNP's majority win at that poll a fresh plan is set to become law before summer.
