EXTRA police patrols will be carried out on railways this weekend in a bid to deter anti-social behaviour.

British Transport Police are preparing for an influx of extra passengers as Scotland plays host four high-profile sporting fixtures.

Sports fans are being urged to plan their journey in advance.

Chief Inspector David Gray is coordinating the BTP operation.

He said: "With Scotland playing Ireland at Murrayfield and Dundee playing Aberdeen in an SPFL Premiership match on Saturday; Hibs playing Rangers in the Championship and Glasgow City playing Paris Saint Germain in a Women's Champions League match at Airdrie on Sunday, it is anticipated that Scotland's rail network will be extremely busy with supporters of club and country travelling to and from matches.

"Everyone using the train to go to the rugby or a football match is urged to plan ahead.

"BTP will be working with ScotRail to ensure everyone can get to the venues safely and on time.

"Passengers are reminded that there will be alcohol restrictions in place on many services to ensure everyone can travel with out encountering anti-social behaviour which could spoil the day's enjoyment.

"And rail staff are present to help you - not be abused."
