After reading in the Evening Times on Monday that Daisuke Nakajima had come all the way from Tokyo to cover their Third Division match at Elgin on Sunday, only to discover on his train journey north that the match was off, Rangers' Finance Director, Brian Stockbridge, tracked him down to offer a special invitation for an exclusive behind-the-scenes visit to Ibrox.
The delighted reporter will be guest of honour at the ground later today, and has also delayed his plans to return to Japan so that he can attend this Sunday's game at Ibrox – which just happens to be a Scottish Cup tie against Elgin.
Nakajima – who spent four years in Glasgow reporting on Celtic for his Japanese magazine while Shunsuke Nakamura was playing for the Parkhead club – has been astonished by the interest his story has created in this country and, thanks to the internet, back home in Japan.
The sports journalist said: "Since my story appeared in the Evening Times, my phone has never stopped ringing with radio and television stations wanting to interview me.
"Now Brian Stockbridge has invited me to Ibrox to meet him and have a look around the stadium, and I am looking forward to this."
