SHOPPERS are this weekend being invited to swap clothes they no longer want for a new addition to their wardrobe.

The Pass it on Glasgow event in St Enoch Centre has been organised by Zero Waste Scotland to encourage people to swap, share, repair, upcycle or buy second hand.

The swap shop in St Enoch's allows people to pass on things they no longer want rather than throw them away.

Anyone who brings in clean clothes can exchange them for something from the shop which will have a mixture of men's, women's and children's clothing in all sizes.

Designer, John Amabile, who presents TV's 60 Minute Makeover, will compere the event.

He said: "With a little bit of TLC, something used can be new to you and I look forward to passing on a few of my own tips on the day for how to give something a new lease of life."

City councillor Liz Cameron, said: "Green Year 2015 is all about showing how small changes to our everyday lives can make a huge difference in protecting our environment.

"I hope Pass it on Week will encourage Glaswegians to get creative with their old clothes and show that with a bit of inspiration we can be both fashionable and sustainable."

Iain Gulland, chief executive of Zero Waste Scotland said: "Pass it on Week is all about rediscovering the joys of passing on, donating, sharing or repairing things to keep them in use for longer.

"Thousands of tonnes of re-usable items are thrown away in Scotland every year because people often aren't sure what to do with an item when they've finished with it.

"This week of activity is all about showing the amazing variety of ways there are to ensure your stuff goes on to have another life with a new owner."

Anne Ledgerwood, general manager of St. Enoch Centre, said: "For the past five years, St. Enoch Centre has achieved zero waste to landfill.

"We are delighted to be teaming with Zero Waste Scotland and Glasgow's Green Year 2015 to show our shoppers how they too can minimise their impact on the environment and reduce the amount sent to landfill."
