MORE than 130,000 train passengers logged on to ScotRail's wi-fi service last month.

ScotRail bosses revealed this is the first time the free service has hit six figures in a single month.

Mobile wi-fi has been installed on 41 ScotRail express trains, including lines serving Glasgow, with 18 more trains to be fitted by December.

ScotRail managing director Steve Montgomery said: "It's great to see such huge demand for the new wi-fi service.

"We're determined to build upon this success and are using new software to help share bandwidth more fairly, giving users faster, more reliable connectivity."

ScotRail also announced that it has rolled out a range of upgrades to the mobile wi-fi on its trains, including faster 4G networks near Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Transport Minister Keith Brown said: "This milestone shows the wi-fi service on board ScotRail's trains is both popular and useful to customers.

"With the service set to be installed in another 18 trains and 24 stations by the end of the year, even more travellers will be able to stay connected on the move.

"The Scottish Government is committed to ensuring that rail travel is an attractive option for everyone in Scotland

"Especially with the vital role the network will play in next year's exciting programme of national events."
