IT'S sofa so good for a furniture factory supporting disabled employees.
Producing soft furnishings and sofas, the 40-strong workforce at NL Industries in North Lanarkshire marked a year in business on United Nations' International Day for Disabled people yesterday.
The business was created after the local Remploy factory was axed in 2012 by the Westminster Government.
North Lanarkshire Council stepped in and created NL Industries to take over and run the factory in an expansion of its existing furniture and refurbishing service, Beltane Products.
Over the past twelve months, workers have produced furniture for the Glasgow Games' Athletes Village, donated bedding and clothing to disabled children in Malawi, made furnishings for ships in the North Sea oil industry and created learning partnerships with local schools and colleges.
