RESIDENTS in an East Renfrewshire village have joined forces to oppose plans for a "major" housing development nearby.
The group decided to take action after development company Gladman Developments unveiled plans to build on greenbelt land near Waterfoot.
John McCourt, spokesman for Waterfoot Action, said the development would "completely ruin" the character of the village and would put pressure on local infrastructure.
The developer has submitted a 'Proposal of Application Notice' to indicate what steps it intends to take prior to the submission of any planning application.
A spokeswoman for East Renfrewshire Council said: "The proposed Plan will now go forward to the Scottish Government reporter for examination. During this process the council will continue to defend the position that this site be retained as green belt."
