More than 500 supporters are expected to turn out for the mass midnight rally, which has been organised in direct response to two recent sex attacks.

Detectives are hunting two men after a 24-year-old woman was raped in the South Side.

It happened between 1am and 2am on Monday in Dixon Road, Govanhill.

Police investigating the attack said two witnesses have come forward.

It is understood the two men who have come forward were seen wearing high visibility jackets on CCTV pictures of the area.

Detective Inspector Liz McLean, who is leading the investigation, said: "It's possible they have information which could prove vital in assisting us to trace those responsible for this attack."

The Govanhill rape came a week after three men raped a woman in Toryglen, around a mile from Govanhill.

The 33-year-old was dragged into a close and raped in Edinbeg Avenue, between midnight and 3am on Saturday May 10.

More than 500 people have voiced their support for the Queen's Park vigil on a Facebook page called 'These Streets Were Made for Walking'.

The group is calling for the focus to be placed on rapists rather than on how women should protect themselves.

It has been organised by two women who live in Govanhill.

A statement from the group stated: "We are tired of being told when we can and cannot walk around our own neighbourhoods as a 'preventative measure'.

"Stop putting the onus on the victim and what they can do to be 'responsible' re their own safety, and instead focus the blame right where it should be: on the rapist."

The event is due to take place at midnight on Monday June 9 and participants should meet at the Queen's Park gates at the top of Victoria Road.
