A SCHEME to revamp derelict homes in North Lanarkshire is starting to pay off.
Launched last year, the Empty House Purchase Scheme aims to reduce the number of empty private properties across the area.
North Lanarkshire council buy the properties and rent them out to tenants in a bid to provide more housing for people in need.
Seven houses have been purchased so far while a further four are in the process of being bought.
Councillor Sam Love, convener of housing and social work services, said he was pleased with the "initial success".
He said: "Given the demand for affordable housing across North Lanarkshire, it's vital we look at ways of increasing the supply of homes.
"We've committed £500,000 to the Empty Home Purchase Scheme and, in addition, the Scottish Government is providing funding of £20,000 for every property purchased."
