The hills have been alive with the Sound of Music for 50 years – and the latest version of the show has finally made it to Glasgow.
And it's a production worthy of the West End stage. Because while many touring versions of musicals fall short of their London predecessors, this one certainly doesn't.
It's the version made famous by Andrew Lloyd Webber's first TV talent search How do you Solve a Problem like Maria.
But it's not the winner of that who stars as sweet nun-turned-nanny Maria, but the largely unknown Verity Rushworth. She's been in Emmerdale for 11 years, and despite her low profile she's a huge talent.
Jason Donovan has swapped Ramsay Street for Bath Street to star as Captain Von Trapp in the show. His voice is sadly not as powerful as the rest of the casts, but it doesn't matter much as he got a cheer before he'd even opened his mouth.
You'd think in these days of juke-box musicals and reality searches the show would have dated.
But five decades on it remains a favourite – and one not to be missed.
l The Sound of Music is on at the King's Theatre, Glasgow, until June 4.
