GLASGOW'S Riverside Museum's celebrations were in full flow after the venue took a European title.

It won the European Museum of the Year honour at a ceremony in Belgium, leaving competition from 40 museums from 21 countries in its wake.

Council leader Gordon Matheson handed over the Henry Moore-designed trophy on the second anniversary of Scotland's Museum of Transport.

Councillor Archie Graham, chairman of Glasgow Life, added: "Riverside has been a success which continues to surpass even the most optimistic expectations.

"It is about the stories that connect the objects to the tales of how these exhibits made a difference to the people who made them, travelled on them or connected through them.

"It is about people and this has been recognised by the visiting public and award judges."

Since it opened exactly two years ago the venue has won a plethora of awards and welcomed 2.5million people.
