A POPULAR 10K road race and fun run are teaming up with a leading heart charity.

Proceeds from the event, in Paisley on Sunday August 31, will go to the British Heart Foundation Scotland.

The charity is the biggest independent funder of heart research in the UK and the event will raise funds for its 'Mending Broken Hearts' appeal.

Paisley is one of only three Scottish 'Heart Towns', a scheme where entire communities come together to join the fight against heart disease.

Last year's event raised £1500 from runners' donations and, with participation increasing, it is hoped the race can beat this figure this time around.

Jim Harte, convener of Renfrewshire Council's sport, leisure and culture policy board, said: "The race is growing year on year and is helping people to pursue a healthy lifestyle.

"More and more people are getting active and are raising thousands for a worthy cause while doing it.
