Youngsters from schools in Glasgow and Renfrewshire made sculptures out of discarded Christmas cards and wrapping paper.

More than 2.4 tonnes of paper was collected in seven days by 2400 pupils – some 72,000 cards and 50,000m of wrapping. The paper and card was collected as part of a campaign by Zero Waste Scotland.

Waste management company AmeyCespa delivered 17 collection bins to each of the participating schools and nurseries.

Pupils from 13 schools were then chosen to attend an exclusive recycling workshop at Glasgow Science Centre.

One overall winner received £500 for their school to spend on recycling initiatives.

Stewart Meikle, commercial director for AmeyCespa, said: "We are delighted to be able to work in partnership with Zero Waste Scotland and Amey to deliver this campaign within the communities in which we live and work.

"We are committed to engaging directly with young children to ignite their passion for recycling."
