As reported in the Evening Times, Moses Mazomba, 24, had been living in Springburn, Glasgow, since 2009 and starred for Cartha Queen's Park.
He was put on an Ethiopian Airlines Flight to Harare from London by officials from the Home Office last night.
His club-mates had rallied round with a petition calling for the 24-year-old to be allowed to remain in Scotland after he was seized by immigration officials when his visa expired last month.
Moses originally came to the UK for treatment for an eye condition.
A spokeswoman for the Unity campaign group said officials from the Medical Justice charity had tried to delay his deportation on the grounds that he needed another operation, but were unable to access to his medical records.
