Glasgow Running Network's 5k Fun Run has been called off this year by organisers.

Run by Glasgow Life, the Bellahouston Park event has been part of the city's sporting calendar for 10 years.

The event, which attracted around 500 competitors, was advertised in the Glasgow Running Network brochure earlier this year.

However, some runners have only recently found out through social networking sites that the event – due to be held this Sunday – has been cancelled.

One runner, Lorna McGarrity, 40, from Kilbarchan, in Renfrewshire, said: "It has always been a favourite event for me and my friend. It is a bit of a sentimental one as well as it was my first race."

Across the city, runners are preparing for the Bupa Great Women's 10k, organised by Nova International and Glasgow Life and with the Evening Times as media partner, which takes place on Sunday May 12.More than 10,000 runners are expected to sign up.
