They joined in sponsored 5k or 10k races, jogged or walked round Pollok Park, some with buggies and dogs.

One of the 10k entrants was Colette Burns, 41, from Blantyre, who was born with a hole in her heart and had surgery to repair it when she was seven.

She said: "I want to keep as fit as possible. I train in Taekwondo twice a week.

"I have completed another two 10k races this year, I run once a week, attend two spinfit classes per week and one Pilates class a week.

"BHF Scotland is a charity which I can honestly say is close to my heart."

The British Heart Foundation is leading the battle against heart and circulatory disease, the UK's biggest killer.
