RAIL commuters in Glasgow face rush-hour delays after the Easter weekend.

Line closures in operation from Saturday to Monday have been extended to Tuesday at midday by Scotrail.

Network Rail engineers will complete a two-year project to upgrade 300 signals over 30 miles of track over the Easter weekend.

Buses will replace trains on the East Kilbride, Barrhead, Newton, Neilston and Cathcart Circle lines as part of a £35million signalling refit.

Although work is due to end on Monday, Scotrail has extended the closure to Tuesday to allow drivers to familiarise themselves with the new signals.

Rail passengers are being advised to plan for extra time for journeys.

A ScotRail spokeswoman said: "We apologise for the inconvenience to customers on a day when many will be returning from their Easter break, but this is essential from a safety perspective.

"We have arranged a fleet of replacement buses to keep inconvenience to a minimum.

"However, we are encouraging customers to allow extra time for their journey that morning, especially if they have to switch between bus and train.

"They should also be aware that the start times of buses may differ from scheduled train times."

Due to road restrictions, there will be no replacement bus service at Maxwell Park. Passenger travelling from Maxwell Park are being advised to use bus services at Pollokshields West and Crossmyloof stations.

Services to Barrhead, Kilmarnock will start and terminate at Barrhead and replacement buses will operate between Glasgow and Barrhead calling at all stations.
