A TEENAGER has made history after taking up his seat on the committee of his local juniors side.

At the age of 16, Ryan Carr has gone into the junior record books for St Rochs.
The All Saints Secondary schoolboy put his name forward when club officials recently made a request for younger members – and he is revelling in having an active role at the club he has supported since the age of 12.
Speaking before only his second committee meeting, he said: “Senior football is a bit on the pricey side and there’s a group of 10 to 12 of us who have taken to following St Rochs everywhere and doing our best to create an atmosphere at their games.
“We really enjoy football at junior level and it just seemed the right thing to do to step up to the plate when the people running the club asked for help.
“Getting involved with what goes on behind the scenes has been an eye opener.  I’m happy to do my share of the work and support the team in another way.”
St Roch’s is based in Provanmill and is nicknamed “the Candy Rock”.
The club was formed in 1920 and plays at James McGrory Park and currently competes in the West Region of the Scottish Junior Football Association.
St Roch’s was the first club of James “Jimmy” McGrory, the British record goalscorer with 550 goals.
He grew  up in the Garngad area and began playing for them when he was just 16.
After helping the club win the Scottish Junior Cup in 1922, scoring in the final, he joined Celtic. The following season Provanmill Park was renamed in his honour in 2013.`
He went on to manage Kilmarnock, before returning to Celtic after the end of the Second World War, to manage them.
He also notched up a British top-flight record of 55 hat-tricks, 48 coming in League games and seven  from Scottish Cup ties.
